HOW TO WRITE

How to write formulas

These are the basic rules for writing formulas.

01

Use field values

To use a field value, enclose the field code in "%". Enclose fixed strings in double quotation marks (").

Sample

Returns the age, as of the day the process runs, from the date in the Date1 field.

AGE(%Date1%)
02

Join strings

To join strings or function results, connect them with "+".

Sample

Converts the value of the Numeric1 field to a string and returns it joined after "ABC".

"ABC"+TO_STRING(%Numeric1%)
03

Use fields with multiple values

The values of fields with multiple values, such as check boxes and user selections, are converted to comma-separated strings before being used in calculations.

Converted values
Field type Converted value
Check box, Multi-choice

Selected values

User selection, Assignee

User names

Department selection

Department names

"Development Department,Human Resources Department"
Group selection

Group names

"Managers,Leaders"
Created by

Name of the creator

"Creator"
Updated by

Name of the updater

"Modifier"

To copy values to a field of the same type, use the FLAT function.

04

Put values into fields with multiple values

To put values into fields with multiple values, such as check boxes and user selections, make the result of the calculation a string in the format for each type.

Values to specify
Field type Value
Check box, Multi-choice

User selection

A comma-separated string of login names and display names joined with ":"

Department selection

A comma-separated string of department codes and department names joined with ":"

"dev:Development Department,hr:Human Resources Department"
Group selection

A comma-separated string of group codes and group names joined with ":"

"mgr:Managers,ldr:Leaders"

To copy the values of a field of the same type, use the FLAT function.
