Decoder

This plugin uses jsQR and quagga to read QR codes and barcodes with the device camera and enter the result in specified fields. It speeds up input on site, for example registering stock quantities by reading the codes on product shelves during stocktaking. It works with the plugins in the Boost! series, so additional processing can also run after reading.

SETTING

Setup

Specify the settings

On the plugin settings screen, specify the fields in which the scanned content is saved, separately for QR codes and barcodes.

QR Code Settings

Field to store the scan result: Specify the field in which the content of the scanned QR code is saved. You can add rows to specify multiple fields.

Barcode Settings

Field to store the scan result: Specify the field in which the content of the scanned barcode is saved. You can add rows to specify multiple fields.
Barcode format: Select the barcode format to read.

Barcode formats

JAN/EAN (13-digit): The standard format widely used on retail product packaging.
JAN/EAN (8-digit): A short format for small products, such as confectionery and cosmetic samples.
CODE128: Often used on logistics and parcel delivery slips and for internal management codes.
CODE93: The successor to CODE39.
CODE39: Sometimes used for industrial products and in older internal management systems.
Codabar(NW-7): Used in specific industries, such as for blood test labels and library collection management.
Standard 2 of 5: An old format that is rarely used today.
Interleaved 2 of 5 (ITF): Used for management codes on bulk packaging units such as cardboard boxes.

You can specify text, link and lookup fields. Fields in tables can also be specified.

The same field cannot be specified for both QR codes and barcodes.

How to use

Show the camera icon

When you open the record add screen or edit screen, a camera icon appears next to the specified field.

Allow the camera

When you click the icon for the first time, the browser shows a dialog asking for permission to use the camera. When you allow it, the camera preview screen opens.

If camera use is blocked, for example on a shared company device, allow the browser to access the camera in the device settings.

Read a code

A yellow guide frame appears in the center of the screen: a square for QR codes and a wide rectangle for barcodes. Position the code so that it fits inside this frame.

Reading accuracy depends on the camera performance, lighting and condition of the printed material. If the code cannot be read well, move to a bright place and make sure no shadow falls on the code.

Barcodes need white margins at both ends. If the camera is too close, the margins may not fit in the frame and the code may not be read. Move the camera away until the whole code, including the margins, fits in the frame.

Check the scanned content

When the code is recognized correctly, the preview screen closes automatically and the scanned content is entered in the field.

After reading, the processing of Boost! Action and Boost! Style also runs. If the code is read into a lookup field, data is retrieved from the datasource.
